The Beginning

In early January, I saw a show on TV, in which profiled people using coupons, matching them with store sales, and walking out with over 90% savings and lots of item. This show led me to a couponing forum http://www.weusecoupons.com/

At this point I decided that I was gonna give this a try. i shopped mainly at Aldi’s and Kroger’s. And thus began getting Sunday papers, and clipping all the coupons out of them. I created an account at WUC, and began watching all the posts, seeing the deals and was amazed! This cant be! As the weeks went by, I had more coupons, and the deals that were being posted had the coupons I had! So little by little I started saving.

By the beginning of February, I ventured out into the world of CVS, I shopped there occasionally for things like milk and eggs, but nothing more. I thought their prices were quite high. I soon learned that they have several items in the weekly sale that generated ECB’s (Extra Care Bucks) that the prices of the items were even cheaper. It did take me a couple weeks to generate ECB’s in larger amounts, but if you pay attention to the sale ads you can get many items for FREE….yes I said free. How? If a product is on sale for $2.99 and generates a $2.99 ECB, then it is FREE and you just have to pay the sales tax on that item, and then you have $2.99 ECB’s to spend on something else. Now if you have a coupon for that sale item…say $.50/1 that lowers your out of pocket (OOP) cost to $2.49, making it a money maker (MM) because you will get a $2.99 ECB! yay! The key with CVS that I have found is to get the ECB deals, use coupons, and then use your ECB to pay the transaction down to the tax…thus resulting in the rolling of the ECB’s into another transaction.

My point of this blog is to post the deals that I get, and my savings, so others can see! I will be adding pictures and my OOP costs to each post and the coupons I used. My plan is to create a stockpile of items, HBA, Laundry, Cleaning, and some food items that will last my family for about 6 months. This way I don’t have to do the dreaded rush to the store because of a last minute out of something like laundry soap and no one has clean clothes. I also want to make my children’s transition out of the home a positive thing, by teaching them how to use coupons, and being able to provide the simple items for them like deodorant, toothpaste, soaps for free and knowing it cost me very little!

I am by NO means a pro! I am still learning. There are so many other people that have been doing this a lot longer! I will post the links to the sites that I visit. But one thing I do love, is the fact that ad scans for most stores come out a week or so early as well as a coupon preview for the upcoming week, so I know what the deals will be and what coupons I will need to make the deals work best for my family!

Enjoy!

Awesome new blogs I found today!!

While lurking around on WUC today I found a new blog to follow!!

The first one is Saving Green in Ohio, by NikkiG! Her posts are far more advanced than mine at this time, and I love the way she has here blog set up, with all the tabs and pages. Maybe one day I will have mine in the advanced stages as well! Thank you NikkiG for all you hard work.

The second one is I heart CVS. In which I found by visiting Saving Green in Ohio! I totally love the one store idea of some of the bloggers out there. Much easier for me to find deals and ad scans by just going to them! So again, Thank you NikkiG, without finding you, I would not have found I heart CVS!!!

I have added both blogs to my blog roll on the right side so I and others can find them easily!!

Extreme couponing airing tonight on TLC

So there is a new series beginning, and I will be watching! I don’t agree with the way the show is casted to make people look like hoarders, and the way the people are portrayed as shelf clearing! This is a real BIG NO NO!!!

The show original show that got me interested and hooked is on at 8pm central time and the new episodes are on at 9pm central time!!

My Kroger changed their coupon policy

Well starting today, my Kroger stores here in Bloomington have changed their coupon policy. Before this change I was able to use unlimited doubles-meaning the would double every coupon under .50 cents. This is no more! The will now only double 2 like coupons–meaning I can only use 2 of the same coupons at one time if I want the double bonus! This has made shopping a bit harder, but still I am happy they are at least allowing some doubling to go on.

I now have to watch my expiration dates a lot closer to make sure I am able to get to the store enough times. And if the coupons are beneficial for a sales week, then I only have one week to use them all! More work for my family, but it is well worth it!!

Walk for Fun?Walk for Life!

Walk for Fun?Walk for Life!

My kids and I are walking again this year to raise funds for the American Liver Foundation’s Liver Life Walk on May 14, 2011 @ White River State Park, in Indianapolis, , and we need your help.

This is Julianna’s story through her mothers words:

Julianna, she is the reason we are walking. Julianna is a very special little girl to me. She was born with Biliary Atresia,at 6 wks old she had a Kasai done. It was a long and stressful 6 hr  wait for the news that she would be ok and surgery went great. She stayed in Riley Hospital for at least 5 days. When we took her home it was very stressful and I of course being a mom I was freaking out about everything. I called the doctors for every tiny thing and they were great with me and were understanding. Juli spent alot of time in the hospital with infections. We spent most of her first 2 yrs in Riley from different infections or possible infections.

Juli is now 6,was in a special needs pre-school for 3 yrs, she is now in Kindergarten, which puts me on edge daily. Because Juli has Biliary Atresia she also has Cirrhosis of the liver and Portal Hypertension, she will never be able to play in contact sports or certain activities. If she is hit hard enough she could be seriously hurt. Juli is a mircle child and I want to thank you very much for reading her story and for donating to this great cause.

Donating is easy! Just click the blue “Click Here to Sponsor Me” button to get started. You can also click the blue “Click Here to Walk With Me” button to join the Liver Life Walk too.

Sunday’s are always a busy day for me.

Sundays are always a busy day for me. I get between 30-50 coupon inserts. I usually get multiples Red Plum and  Smartsource, occasionally there are Proctor & Gamble or General Mills. After I sort them by publisher, I create a file for them (type & date), and remove all the non-coupon pages.  Then I take about 10-15 of each and sort them into like piles. This allows me to staple them together so I am not digging through all 10 or so looking for one certain coupon. I can just pull them, locate the coupon I want, and then clip 5 of them, if that is what I need for my trip. My kids are tremendous with helping me get everything organized and ready for the week. They love to see the savings!!!

I usually know before hand what coupons I will be using, and where. With the ad-scans I know what items will be the good deals for the week, before I even receive the inserts for the week. I depend on this, from the WUC forum. They area great resource to have to maximize my stockpile items, saving me tons of money.

I also clip one set of each type of insert and put them in my binder, so that I have them readily available. I also have a carry along file that I take with me just in case of clearance or items not in the store ads that I find!

My new shelves…

My hubby bought these for me today! I just love them. My lil boys and I put them together, and tomorrow we will put our food on them! Yes they are in my kitchen, but that is the only place I have for them. They are the deeper ones, so I will be replacing or removing that annoying light…it is too low anyway! I can’t wait to see how much stuff they will hold! And I found the perfect stack-able plastic drawers that will fit beside the sink in my upstairs bathroom to hold things like toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, and things of that nature for only $10!!! Can’t wait to get them next week!!!! Let the good deals begin 🙂
